Yahoo! What a good idea! :D
Does this also mean that recolors for the original will show up for the conversion, too?

No, every recolour is separate -- for a new one you'd have to make a new texture-stealing-edit.

I'm not understanding this, I'm being dense today so help me. Are you saying we can replace the other converted meshes with your downloads so that all recolors will be using your meshes?

These are not my meshes .. I only made the recolours. More specifically, they're not recolors in the classical sense, more like "empty shells" of recolours that only point to the texture that the game already has in its belly.

Whether or not you can replace the original recolours with mine depends on what EPs you have -- if you have Seasons for example, it makes more sense to use my versions of the Seasons stuff since there's no good reason to have two identical textures in your game. But if you don't, you need to use the original "standalone" version .. otherwise the mesh will just look white and empty, because there's nowhere to take the texture from if you don't have Seasons installed.

plasticbox, thanks for these, I'm too lazy to make them myself. But actually I have a more efficient method, I usually point the 3IDR to the corresponding TXMT, that way, you don't even need to include the custom TXMT. I use that method on most my stuff.

!!! <3

I've been wanting to figure out how to do this, but I just haven't had the time. Thank you so much.

Would there perhaps be a way for recolors of the original EP outfit to also show up for conversions? That would be wonderful! :D

Yes, there is a way: make a new edit for every recolour.

If you're looking for some *other* way to achieve this, as in, make them somehow appear automagically, you should probably check out the Create forums .. but I guess if that were possible, someone would have done it a long time ago.

Wow, thanks Plasticbox for doing this for my meshes. This is great, I would like to know how to do this as it will save me a lot of time in making textures at least for the basegamemeshes! Till then I'll post those textures separately in case you, me or anybody else makes a referencing file like this for them.

Oh and I wondered why you didn't included my meshes like Cloudlessnights meshes and I noticed I forgot to put my policy in the text : You can do with my meshes whatever you want just keep my work free

Cocomama,

it's actually very simple once you know how: you need to

1. make a normal recolour (doesn't matter with what texture) in BodyShop and import it to game
2. open that recolor in SimPE and delete the texture (or textures, in case there's a bumpmap as well)
3. open Program Files/EA Games/***EP***/TSData/Res/3D/Sims07 in a *second* window in SimPE,
4. find the texture you want (Sims07 contains all the clothing textures) and copy its name, without the _txtr at the end, to the TXMT in your recolour. If there's a bumpmap, do the same for the bumpmap. This makes your TXMT point to the in-game texture, instead of the one that was in the recolour.
5. Commit, save, done.

***EP*** = the respective EP that the mesh is converted from. In the Base Game, the "3D" folder is called "Sims3D".

This is all off the top of my head, I don't have SimPE open right now, so maybe the path is a little different or something .. but I hope you will find what you need.

Be careful not to touch anything in the Sims07 package .. you don't want to bork your game files =).

This is how I did it -- note that treeag has pointed out a smarter method above: delete the TXMT as well, and just point the 3IDR to the TXMT of the original .. haven't tried that yet, but shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, and I didn't include your mesh because you didn't explicitely say it could be included -- thanks for letting me know! =)

Thank you very much for your answer Plasticbox, this sounds like something I can learn. I suppose that second window in SimPE you mentioned is the Finder window and that I can find the names of the textures with a search in the Namemaps, I'll better look into it tomorrow with a fresh view and a clear head, thanks again!!

Uh, I dunno about Finder Window .. actually, being a mac user, I'm very confused with the whole windows business under Windows in general =). What I do is just double-clicky on the SimPE icon a second time, and then open the Sims07 thing in that.

Dunno about Namemaps either .. I just scrolled through the textures until I found the one I wanted. They're all named something reasonable, like cfbodydress_short_blue.

But, again, it may well be that there are more reasonable, or even: less stupid, ways to do both of this =).

Thanks for the mini-tutorial there!! That should be quite helpful.
