Masquerade, masquerade... paper faces on parade.

Date Posted: 6th Apr 2007 at 11:17 PM

Working on a new collection right now… it's called Masquerade. This one will include masks, dresses, skins and possibly hair – and perhaps more things, because I have some wonderful people who might be teaming up with me for more published material.

Masquerade will be all about flair and grace,

Be patient though, this one will take a whole long while to finish. Meanwhile, I posted a few new skins over at Insimenator if any of you are interested

Pixie Demonic; updates

Date Posted: 22nd Sep 2006 at 1:52 PM

Good news, folks :]

The Pixie Demonic set is going ahead as planned. I've finished the first skin and the recolour of a set of horns to go along with it (yay!) and I'm thinking of starting the second today – I already have it all planned out. The first is called Pixie Fiend, the second will be Pixie Incubi and the third is likely to be Pixie Serpent. I might make a fourth, I have such an awesome idea for a fourth, but I only have three different types of horns... so I don't rightly know yet.

For a preview of the skin I've finished...

Alighieri there in the picture will likely end up modelling the skin as well :]

Now... on to Incubi...

(edit: the three horns I'm using are from Insimenator... the ones from 3Dconsortium are pay and I don't want to force anyone to pay to get everything out of one of my downloads They look excellent, though )

Pixie Demonic

As some of you know, I've just finished off my Pixie Forests collection and I'm just waiting for it to be approved.

The next theme is Pixie Demonic, where I'll be making some pretty wicked looking skins. I have a plan to colour horns to go with the separate skins though and I'd love some help on where to find nice horns that I can recolour (in other words, not those by creators that don't want anyone to recolour their items). I just thought it'd be a pretty nifty idea

Unholy Collection

Date Posted: 25th Aug 2006 at 8:20 PM

After many requests from the community, I'm working on my new horror collection. It's a lot of work because some of the skins, in particular the zombie skin, have a LOT of detailing in them. I'm not doing any as just different colours than the regular skin but they all have little details to them, as well as specific makeup, eyebrows and eyes you can use with them (I know some people don't want makeup that can only be used with a single skin, so I'll add the makeup and eyebrows as a separate download for those who want it).

If you're curious of the progress... the zombie skin (Pixie Rot) is done, one of the alien skins (there will be two, this one will be the more 'unrealistic' (as far as colour goes) of the two) is nearly done and I've only started on the vampire skin. I'm hoping that I'll finish the collection this week though, but I'm going away this weekend so I'm not sure if I'll have the time to.

Either way, it's a lot of fun.

On the top, you see the horror skin (no makeup in either) and on the bottom, you see the first alien skin (Pixie Anomaly). To the left, without makeup and to the right with makeup.

It's driving me nuts!

I thought I'd start up a journal… let's see if it gets deleted :D

After quite a lot of pressure from the community, I'm trying to work on a dark skin-set again. There is a reason to why I make so many more pale skins than dark ones – and it's that it's a lot harder to make them look good. My templates are very smooth in skin-tone and I put a lot of time into making transitions between colours and contrast... and when the game uses the files on the models, a lot of this work is lost. The pale colours still show up pretty much fine, but the darker ones (when you paint dark skin, you use a LOT more colour than you do when you use lighter ones) translate horribly. It's also much easier to spot the issues on a darker skin. I've looked and I can glimpse a bit of pixellation even on my lighter skins but there's no issue there, I've brought it down to a minimum by always working from my photoshop templates rather than overpainting the bmp's.

I honestly have no clue of how other skinners do it. Either they know some trick I don't, or they're not as obsessive about it as I am. I can't deal with the skin tones looking horrible. I'd rather release nothing than something I'm not happy with :/ I've come a long way since my first skin releases, when I knew next to nothing on how to make a face work as a texture (I come from a background as a painter and while this demands the same basic skills, you deal with light and shape in an entirely different way) but there are some things I just can't figure out. I guess it would help if I knew anything about 3D art but I honestly don't.

It looks horrible in bodyshop, and when I take it into the game – even worse! The biggest problem is the forehead where the transitions are the smoothest and for some reason, around the temples. Previously, I've left the forehead quite flat and that's not a good solution at all. I'm just going to have to keep trying, I suppose, until I find some way to work around my issues. Until then, I'll do some more lighter to tanned skintones that I know for a fact show up very nicely in the game.
