Default Turning lake-water into a pool?
I know I saw this on a lot somewhere, they had pool ladders and diving boards in a community lot, but it was in a lake (water tool).

Anyone know how to do this?

I know there is one where someone used the boolprop contrainfloorelevation false cheat to raise the edges of land around the edges of the pool, creating slopes that make the pool look like a lake. Perhaps that's the one you're thinking of.

Also, I suppose you could moveobjects the ladder and diving board into the lake... not usuable, just nice.

I really wish swiming in the lake were possible...

I already tried this, but my sim won't dive in it. They act as if there is no water underneath. I should like to know a solution too.

Coulnd't you thoretically (sp?) make a pool, deck it out, then move_objects on and put a lake over it? There wold be a pool there, but you wouldn't see it. Or the other way and hope the pol stays under the lake.

There are 3 things this pool you saw could be:

1. A lake with a ladder and diving board.
2. A pool with contrainfloorelevation turned off and lake put around it.
3. A pool with extra pool added on, making more hidden pool water under the land, which could be shaped to look like a lake.

Either way, sims cant use it.

yeah...that's not lakewater...it's a pool that's made to look like a lake. Awesome work to whoever did that, btw. Looks great.

Hey I have been looking in to this reading tutorials on sims2.com and I found out that it's a pool or the floor painted to look like a lake.

ya have to lower the "lake area" by 4 clicks and then raise the edges by one click, add foundation that hangs over into the 4 click dip and then add a diving board/stairs to the foundation check out Mike Inside for a good tutorial

Quick explanation so that you can make all the cool pools you like. The water itself has abosolutely nothing to do with the sims being able to use it or even swim in it. You can make them swim in concrete if you like. The pool tools make the interactions available to the sims. These items must be on a lvl higher then the lvl they are diving into. When making a pool the diving board is set at ground lvl and the lvl of the pool (the pool floor) is one lvl below ground. The transparent layers of the water are just there for asthetics and are not taken into account. When using the water tool the floor at the bottom of the lake is ground lvl so you have to build your pool accessories one lvl above that (or more if you like). Much practice and expermenting stills needs to be done to dertermine the optimum heights of your pool accessory items.

I guess I should point out that lowering the ground lvl isn't going to change the fact that it is still ground lvl. You have to add a high lvl for your accessories. (that is what the foundation is for in the lot you have seen)

Lol... just some clarifications:

The "pool tools" Kopperman used mean "pool accessories" like the dive board and the pool ladder but not the pool-maker.

"The transparent layers of the water" probably means the pool water layers used in the base game TS2 and UNI.

Ellatrue,

Yes, so some lot-builders are trying to figure out other ways to do some acceptable lakes or else...

Um, this is the first time I tried this. I made a lovely little pool:

There's just one little problem:

The pool level is definitely below the diving board, and I made the whole pool at least 4 clicks down. But my Sim seems to think that the whole lot is a pool once she gets in. Any ideas on how to contain her to the water area?

One'll have to use some boundry objects to limit where your sims can swim... Use the following types of objects to surround the swimming zone.

Boundry ocjects:
1. wall-based type: walls, foundations, decks, fences, half-walls, etc...
2. sims-inaccessible-object-based type: trees, shrubs, columns, statues, etc...

Personally, I use trees and shrubs for lakes/ponds/seas or else while walls, foundations, decks, fences for pools...

surely, for lots of redicules, one can use a table, a desk, a standing lamp, fireplaces, refrigurator/fridge, chairs, beds, stove and so forth as boundry objects!

Anyone knows of any rocck objects?
That'll be a nice alternative to shrubs and trees for ponds/lakes/seas or else...'

Y'know, I have rocks on that lot, and was going to put them around the lake, but didn't like how they looked. I'll move them closer and see if the sims swim through them. It's pretty funny - they even swim up to the kitchen and pop their heads out of the water at the dinner table to eat! I would keep the lot as is for sheer amusement, but wanted to upload it.

Thx for your help! (you should be a moderator, Niol )

No, I'm not a moderator and unlikely to be one, but a learner. I only know some build-skills and a few bits of tricks.
There're still many things to learn...

I really like the styles of your lots, they're really techno and modern and concise... Somehow, these 2 themes are really appealing to me...

May you tell me where to find those rocks?
I guess I want to get different sorts of rocks and shrubs to "beautify" the ponds or lakes or else... Thanks in advance...

Update:
Thanks again for the link..

That's so funny! I was just looking for the link now, 'cause I'm going to upload that lot.

Here it is: http://jendea2.jendea.net/

I use them all the time. You can turn them and stick them together so that they don't all look the same.

P.S. Thanks so much for the compliments! I'm really a newbie, but I'm glad you like my style :D
