I am a parent and I agree that parents have the responsibility of monitoring how thier children play the game. I have two daughters playing and the older one is old enough to play however she likes, but the younger one I do pay close attention to. She doesn't even know how to unblur the censor blur and even if she did figure it out, she knows my wrath!

This is a fine game and that attorney is probably some sort of closet pervert himself. He needs to pick on something somewhere else and leave the Sims alone! He is probably of the same mentality as that idiot man who tried to say that breastfeeding babies was perverted and caused mental problems in children when they grew up. As that one comedian would say . . HERE'S YOUR SIGN! (for those of you not familiar with that joke, the sign you would be handing to that person would just say "I'm an idiot")

But, What has TS2 influenced for anyone in the world? Nothing. Gosh. No exrta sex rating in any state, no molesters found with the disk in their laptops, nothing. Sheesh.

I think the moral of the story is, "Having sex with your girlfriend/wife is worse than going on a killing spree".

After all, GTA is sold freely with mass murder in it. When they find even a whisper of sex, AO rating!

Am I the only one who has a little "issue" with that moral?

If this moron is really worried about children being exposed to the violence and (simulated) nudity in video games, then he should address the one who are really responsible. As a parent, it is my duty to keep inapporpriate material out of my kids hands, not the video game producers. My 11 year old loves the sims 2. As a child with dislexia, it helps her reading when she gets on of the wild cards.

yes its just a video game (too much sex not suitable) then it will progress to television (influences children) once he destroyes that he will go after moter vehicles (children can get killed in car accidents) then electricity(they may put a screwdriver in the outlet). I dont know about you all but I am not going to live in the stone age because of his beliefs. lets just go and slap an Elderly Adult rating on everything everywhere that way hes powerless. for example video games :grand theft auto EA, super mario EA Movies :Barney the dinosaur EA, Teletubbies EA Groceries: Chef Boy R D EA, can of beans EA, Lucky charms EA
Then after hes happy lets give him his very own country where he can start his own religion and everyone their can live like their in the old days. personally my beliefs are going forward and not backwards.by the way I have seen a heck of alot worse in leisure suite larry. And unlike gta that content doesnt require a hack to access. what gta did was lock that scene away in a beta sector of the disk and shut off access to the run program because removing the program can cause undesirable effects and currupt the entire game. It is kind of like a foundation that scene is one of the base bricks if you remove it the whole structure becomes unstable. I myself have witnessed removal of unused programs currupting the main project and if you look at other games there are often beta areas left in the game because they are unremovable.

This guy needs his sign stapled to his forehead. What is they big deal about sex and nudity anyway? I would rather see a young person exposed to the concept of what the human body looks like with out clothes and the mature concept of sex, than give them a gun and take them hunting, which was/is a widely accepted practice. (the whole take the kid out to kill a deer thing).
Its perfectly fine to blow someones brains out (as long as there isn't too much rendered gore) but god forbid sex is mentioned.

TS and TS2 are great educators for the life cycle.

At the end of the day it comes down to the parents. If you don't want your children exposed to any form of nudity or violence that is your choice. Be a good parent: make the choice and enforce it. Don't just let your kids do want they want with out any supervision and then cry foul when you find out that you don't like the concepts in the game they play.

I used to work in a games store. I would tell the kids they can't buy that game, they are too young. Kid would get parent. Parent would get pissed off with me for enforcing the rating (M15+) and buy the game and give to the kid. If you're gonna do that don't compain when you find them playing Manhunt or GTA: SA, and are upset with the content. Many have mentioned their upbringing. Its great that your parents cared about what you saw and did. If parents these days did the same there would be less idiots like this in the world. (Go Momicajack for taking part in you children's recreation)

What I find discusting is that this person, supposedly on the "moral" right, has helped get 18yo murderers aquitted. All he's doing is excusing their crimes. They only way TS2 is going to cause someone harm is if they play too long and pass out from sleep deprivation as they are trying to get that 3rd generation accepted to private school. :D

And your whole anti-video games crusade is just plain stupid, altough giving some games(like GTA, not the harmless Sims)a higher rating is a fact i agree with, but you're out of control, people have been killing WAY before video games, and your reply shows that you didn't read my message at all, and yeah, R* were a bit stupid by putting content like the Hot Coffee into the game, but if you want to complain to anyone, don't complain to them, complain to the modders who basically CREATED the thing

hi there Jack, i'd like to ask if you have actually PLAYED the game's your contradicting, The Sims actually has NO nudity what so ever, and if the blur is taken off, there is nothing visible, the sims just appear like Barbie dolls, and your contradictions of The Sims are INCREDIBLY stupid, it is a game with NO content that is unsuitable for a 6-year old

and for the 'Hot Coffee' mod in GTA:SA, they arn't necesarily having sex, they have their clothes on

stupid prick -.-

I agree, nudity is custom content! It's the person's decision if he want's it or not, there are worst games than the Sims 2 showing nudity (f.e. Singles:Flirt up your life) in this game nudity is included, although this game is "A" (Adults only), although I have it.

In the statement, Thompson says, "Sims 2, the latest version of the Sims video game franchise ... contains, according to video game news sites, full frontal nudity, including nipples, penises, labia, and pubic hair."

That does not sound like The Sims I know at all. It sound like someone has mistaken our lovely family oriented, The Sims with that sex oriented Singles.

Original sims have Ken & Barbie lookalike nude skin and those realistic nude skins he claimed that contained in The Sims 2 are not Maxis's, they are fan creations.

And I respect those people who make it since every adult sims sites I have been have big "ADULT ONLY" warning and we are adult ( I am 21. ), we can decide that we want to have realistic nudity in our game or not.

As for children, parents need to take care of there own children, not just do it, pregnant, deliver, then leave them with games. They need to teach their beloved kids what right and wrong.

It is human's instinct to blame others while it is their fault.

If I make a film company and someone buy my film to shoot porn, is he going to sue me .

Btw, I have been a law student, even I am not good one since I do not like it and I left law school at junior year, I am sure that EA will win and the company ought to sue him back for wronfully accusation. I am not 100% sure, but I think EA & Maxis can also sue him with libel issue.

What will he do next after sue all game companies, sue fashion designers for design clothes that look too revealing?!

Gods blesses Maxis & The Sims Community.

Regards.

Thompson, who represents the families of two Alabama cops shot to death by a teenager who played the Grand Theft Auto series, believes violent games can encourage and train players to murder.

EGM: Videogames with mature content are clearly labeled on the box. Isn't a voluntary ratings system a responsible move by the videogame industry?
Jack Thompson: The ESRB [Entertainment Software Rating Board] doesn't work because, as the [Federal Trade Commission] and various private individuals and organizations have found, retailers are not abiding by [the ratings]. They're selling these games to kids under 17 despite the rating label. In fact, it's a counterproductive sales tool because millions of kids want the Mature-rated games. Rating labels that have no practical impact are ineffectual and counterproductive. That's why another attorney and I sued Best Buy in November of 2004, so they agreed now to ID anyone who presents a game to a cashier and appears to be 21 years of age and under. We moved the bar four years forward, so it is less likely kids under 17 can buy these things.

EGM: But how often do M-rated games end up in the hands of kids in stores?

JT: Many stings have found that up to 50 percent of kids under 17 were sold M-rated games. And with 14-year-olds, between 70 to 80 percent of them were able to buy titles like [Grand Theft Auto:] San Andreas. Some videogame companies don't want retailers to abide by these ratings. It's a charade—they say to parents and Congress, "Don't sell M-rated games to anyone under 17," but they do. The videogame industry says one thing and does another.

EGM: Who are you referring to, exactly?

JT: Game publishers, console manufacturers, and retailers. They're all in cahoots with one another to have a rating system that doesn't work. The ESRB system is not a warning label—it's a rating label. It should say "Do not sell this game to anyone under 17." EGM: What are you proposing to fix this?

JT: We need a three-legged stool: education, legislation, and my approach, which is to do the right thing. This includes representing bereaved third parties so they can sue those responsible for actions that have resulted in death. Family members who miss their loved ones—this is where the breakthrough will occur. The industry fears this, so they've all run out and bought "copycat liability" insurance to protect them. If they don't think this is going to happen, then why are they buying it? This third solution is to scare the dickens out of the videogame industry to stop marketing and selling inappropriate games to children. My goal is to save lives.

EGM: Your attempts to compensate victims of alleged game-related deaths have been unsuccessful so far. Why do you think this is?

JT: Lawyers tend to be to the left of normal people, and judges tend to be the left of the lawyers. Federal judges tend to be the left of them. So you have a bunch of First Amendment absolutists who block these kinds of lawsuits. State courts, however, are far more responsive to parents. I suppose federal judges by and large don't have a problem with mental molestation of children with murder simulators.

EGM: You once compared Doug Lowenstein, president of the Entertainment Software Association, to Saddam Hussein.

JT: If I did, I want to apologize to Saddam Hussein. Doug is a propagandist to whom the facts don't matter. He's paid to lie and he does it very well. Doug is paid a handsome salary, probably seven figures, to say there are no studies that indicate [violent games have] an effect on anyone. If this is true, why is the military using them to create killing simulators?

EGM: Let's talk about this. Isn't there a difference between training and acting out?

Publisher THQ insists that Full Spectrum Warrior "does not contain any content that could potentially be used against U.S. forces."
JT: A cyberterrorism expert has found that games such as [THQ's] Full Spectrum Warrior, or Full Spectrum Command as it's known in the military, is being used by al Qaeda to train their troops. These games don't just teach skills—they break down the inhibition to kill. We've been trained by society and our parents not to kill another person, so the way you break that down is to put a soldier in a VR setting, which will be far more effective in the long run.

EGM: MIT's Henry Jenkins says many researchers don't buy the "monkey see, monkey do" hypothesis.

JT: If Henry doesn't think education has an effect on anyone he should stop being a professor. You can modify behavior. The very same people like Doug [Lowenstein] who say games can't encourage anyone to do anything are the same people who tend to get upset about tobacco ads because they encourage kids to smoke. So why are [mature] game advertisements shown on TV when X percentage of kids are in the audience? This is because ads for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas may persuade them to buy games. And how is it that 10 hours of being immersed in violent behavior doesn't have an effect? It's nonsense to think otherwise....

EGM: But tens of millions of these GTA games are sold and there are very, very few reports of actual violence associated with them. Aren't the criminals just blaming a game as a scapegoat? Aren't other factors at play here?

JT: First of all, we don't know how many people have acted out violently because of these games, but after I appeared on Good Morning America, a Gallop poll found 71 percent of all U.S teenage boys who played Vice City were twice as likely to have been engaged in an act of violence. Also, aggressive behavior may be expressed verbally—not everyone goes "postal" or "Columbine." There have been dozens of studies that show even short-term exposure of these games to teens has an effect on violence, aggressiveness, and bad behavior that goes from bad speech to killing people. It's a wide spectrum. Videogames can be the final causal link in a chain of factors that can result in a Columbine.

EGM: Shouldn't parents—not government or game publishers—bear the responsibility to prevent that?

JT: Both government and home have shared responsibilities here. Parents are negligent in letting kids play these games for hours at a time, but even if we do everything right to keep a kid away from these games, his classmates are playing them. He could just play somewhere else. We have an aggressive industry taking advantage of derelict parents. The whole youth culture is immersed in this stuff.

EGM: Does your 12-year-old son play videogames?

JT: Not anything above an E [suitable for everyone] rating. Many Teen [-rated] games should be Mature because our society is more desensitized to violence. GTA3, which was released five years ago, now helps other games push the envelope in violence. The bar has been raised.

EGM: But most games aren't violent.

JT: Yes, I know Doug [Lowenstein] says most games aren't violent, but an incredible percentage of games that are sold are M-rated. There may be 41 Euchre games and one GTA, but what do you think the sales are like for each? This is how Doug uses statistics.

EGM: Do you play games?

JT: I play them to the extent that I need to make DVD copies of the killing scenes for presentations or court. Have I played San Andreas? Yes.

EGM: Jenkins claims youth violence has fallen as games rise in popularity. How do you see a correlation between virtual violence and real violence?

JT: Well, let's look at deaths in and around schools. In 2004, there were 48 in number. In 2003, there were 16. In 2002, there were 17. Yes, the death rate in which murderous actions have taken place has gone down, but there are other factors such as the shortening of ambulance response time, better medical techniques, and so forth.

EGM: So, what's next on the agenda for you?

Are game companies buying "copycat insurance" to protect them? All the major publishers we spoke with said it doesn't exist.
JT: [A lawsuit regarding] a multiple loss of life by a teenager who played Vice City. We are going to sue videogame manufacturers, platform manufacturers, and retailers like Wal-Mart, Circuit City, and Amazon who continue to sell adult-rated materials to children. We're going to sue the industry for its recklessness, for being so shortsighted. Eventually there is going to be a Columbine to the factor of 10, a slaughter in a school by a crazed gamer. And when that happens, when America figures out these kids were filled up with virtual violence, Congress may ban the games altogether. You wise guys who think you're so clever about saying what kids ought to play and then putting [Mature] games in the hands of those kids, you will wish you listened to me.

It is there to direct games towards the right age groups and if they think that it is not bad enough to be rated mature then as far as I am considered, So be it! After the bombs in London, Egypt, Spain and the horror of 9/11 in the USA, I really think there are a few more important issues in this world than a video game. Evil does not need a game to amuse or instruct. It exists within ones' self.

If Maxis purposely make the Sims 2 not moddable, no custom content can be created, then do not call it TS2, call it the Happy Families. That guy is really a fool, TS2 teaches the human anatomy and seeing sims woohooing each other is better than taking a gun and kill people. Maxis has done its best to make the game children freindly, thats is why if you managed to see them woohoo the animation is all f*cked up. They are just ken and barbie dolls. Thanks to modders all over the world, now they have realistic anatomy. It is up to you to download it or not, but If the game is not moddable, people will chuck the game away in a corner after playing it for 2 days or so.

I'm 13 and I just got into the sims last year by my cousin and I would have nothing to do if they over rated this game or I would just get my parents to get it for me like it's like what happened Manhunt they took the game off the shelves because it influenced some person to kill or whatever but they still have it on the shelves like video game exchanges or rental gaming stores!
