A bumpmap is a layer that you add to a flat image to give it the looks of a 3D thing. Just clone your image, then emboss and set the blending mode to soft light. It isnt always the same for all the image editing programs though. Just try and experience a bit But the basic is always the same, which I told you up there :-)

I don't think a plain texture is the same thing as a functional bump map. Bump maps on clothing, for example, change their look according to the lighting. They give an impression of a 3D surface texture, it's more than just a texture with shadows and highlights.

If you use SimPE to clone walls/floors it retains the bump map references. I haven't checked to see if it really works though.

SnowStorm,
Do you plan to test that ? I use Homecrafter to make walls but if it's easy to add bump maps to walls through SimPE, it can be a great addition to game-realism, especially with brick and embossed walls (of course only for systems that allows bump maps). see pics (not Sims items)

I'm still completing my infos about bump maps (thanks search func.) and i'll be pleased to learn more.

I do intend to test it at some point, I've just been busy with a bunch of other projects. I do know my terrain that I added a bump map to did seem to make use of it.

Waow, Bump maps everywhere? Skins, clothes, objects, terrains as it seems, maybe walls, why not floors ? This looks to me like an entire territory to discover !
SnowStorm, will you share your test-results once they're done ? Yes please, instruct me when you've time ! I'm very interrested in the terrain bump too.
Meanwhile I'll mess...err...test things on my side and try to figure out.
